Ehhh ... What's Up Doc?
- Elizabeth McBride, M.D., was summarily suspended by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine on October 12, 2010. The Board reviewed information which raised serious concerns about Dr. McBride's prescribing practices and overall fitness to practice medicine. Based upon review of the information, the Board determined that Dr. McBride presented an imminent danger to her patients. An adjudicatory hearing to address the summary suspension will be held in November 2010. Dr. McBride practices in Belfast.
- Michael J. Festino, M.D., was reprimanded in a Consent Agreement signed with the Board of Licensure in Medicine on October 12, 2010. In the Consent Agreement, Dr. Festino admitted the Board has sufficient evidence to find that he prescribed controlled medications to himself and to someone with whom he had a close personal relationship. In addition to the reprimand, Dr. Festino accepted a $1,000 fine and must complete a Board approved course within twelve months. Dr. Festino practices in Saco.
- James C. Cooper, M.D., had his application for permanent licensure denied following an Adjudicatory Hearing held by the Board of Licensure in Medicine on October 12, 2010. The Board found that Dr. Cooper, who practiced in Maine under a temporary license in 2008/2009, failed to take appropriate emergency action while treating a patient, used fear to manipulate a patient, failed to communicate appropriately with the Board, and failed to take responsibility or show insight about the events. In addition to the denial, the Board also reprimanded Dr. Cooper. Dr. Cooper, a psychiatrist, practiced in the Rockland area.
All adverse licensing actions are reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank, the Health Integrity and Protection Data Bank, and the Federation of State Medical Boards Action Data Bank

- Shock: Muslim Brotherhood Officially Declares War on the U.S. Despite Obama Administration’s Appeasement - Posted: October15th by Diane Suffern
In a recent article for Town Hall, Frank Gaffney exposed President Obama’s accommodation of the Muslim Brotherhood, identifying seven areas where the administration had complied with the organization’s chief objectives. Considering the group’s overall aim is to wage "a kind of grand jihad eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions," it stands to reason that any compliance is de facto submission to the enemy.

- Muslim Cleric: No Such Thing as Marital Rape - Posted: October15th by boaz
A Muslim cleric has sparked controversy in Britain by claiming that it is impossible for men to rape their wives. "Clearly there cannot be any rape within the marriage," Sheikh Maulana Abu Sayeed said. "Because when they got married, the understanding was that sexual intercourse was part of the marriage, so there cannot be anything against sex in marriage.

When New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently pulled out of the proposed Hudson River rail tunnel, angst gripped the editorial pages of the New York Times and elsewhere, says William L. Anderson, an associate professor of economics at Frostburg State University.
If there were ever a "not so fast" moment, this is it.
- Keeping the Poor in Poverty - Posted: October15th
The Obama administration and congressional Democrats talk frequently about the poor. They lavish programs upon them. (Last year the Obama administration increased spending on means-tested and other antipoverty programs by $120 billion, to a total of just under $600 billion.) But they seem curiously indifferent -- if not actually hostile -- to proposals that might actually reduce poverty in America, says Michael Tanner, a senior fellow with the Cato Institute.
For example, few things are as important in helping people escape poverty as education.
- Hiding the Cost of Government Leads to Bigger Government - Posted: October15th
Congress hides from voters a huge part of the cost of government: the hidden costs of taxes, which include lost income and jobs. Failing to account for these costs creates a bias in favor of bigger government and a less efficient tax code, says Christopher J. Conover, a research scholar with the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research at Duke University. Everyone from President Reagan's economic advisor Martin Feldstein to President Obama's economic advisor Jonathan Gruber agree that this hidden cost of taxation is very real and very large.
- Deficits and Depression - Posted: October15th
The popular uproar over higher taxes and massive unemployment pales in comparison with the sense of humiliation over the fact that we Americans are quite broke.
- In 2008, the public was furious at George W. Bush, not because he was too much of a right-wing tightwad, but because he ran up a series of what were then thought to be gargantuan deficits.
- The result was that under a supposedly conservative administration, and despite six years of an allegedly small-government Republican Congress, the national debt nearly doubled, from $3.3 trillion to $6.3 trillion, in just eight years.

- The Most Expensive Government School Ever - Is Donald Trump’s Fault! - Posted: October15th by Kyle Olson

The brand-spanking new Robert F. Kennedy Community School opened in Los Angeles recently and carried a price tag of $578 million, making it the most expensive public school ever. The reason it cost so much? Well, Donald Trump, of course! No, it wasn’t The Donald that ordered up this opulance - it was the big-spending bureaucrats of the L.A. Unified School District. But have no fear, they guarantee a return on investment. Well, sort of. Maybe. Oh, who cares? Did you see the cool talking benches??

- Science vs. Scientific Consensus On Global Warming - Posted: October14th by John Hawkins
Over at the New York Times, Ross Douthat, who’s a true believer in global warming, wrote a surprisingly intriguing piece called, "Why Don’t Republicans Believe in Climate Change?"The reason I say, "surprisingly intriguing" is because most pieces of the sort that Douthat’s writing are tedious, insult laden borefests. Pieces like that are so common and repetitive that you can practically recite them in your sleep, "Zzzzzzzz, Republicans hate science, scientific consensus, zzzzzzzz, crazy to suggest otherwise, Polar bears, zzzzzzz." Douthat, who’s squishy, but thoughtful, takes a different route
